You're gliding along a deserted coastline on a weeklong trip - no cars,
no people - just you, your companions and the picturesque scenery.
You've entered the world of kayak camping. You've become part of a
self-sufficient group of paddlers who can explore small islands,
deserted beaches, hidden coves, remote lakes and quiet waterways on
multi-day or weeklong trips.
Camping out of your kayak is a very rewarding experience. Depending
on the trip, you'll need an adequate level of kayaking and navigational
skills. A seaworthy kayak, basic safety gear, navigational aids,
reliable camping gear and appropriate clothing will get you where you
want to go. Whether it's a weekend trip to Todos Santos Island or a
weeklong trip down the Green River in Utah, being well prepared is
the key to a successful adventure.
The San Diego Kayak Club hosts many weekend and longer trips throughout
the year. Check out club calendar
for upcoming trips.
